Great Ideas: Student-driven Technology-Enhanced Personalised Learning Showcase (STEPS)!

A student competition organised by University of the Philippines Diliman

The Great Ideas: Student-driven Technology-Enhanced Personalised Learning Showcase (STEPS) is an undergraduate student competition aimed at highlighting innovative ways students integrate technology to personalise their learning experiences. Participants will submit short videos demonstrating creative and effective uses of technology in their educational journey. The competition fosters self-directed learning, innovation, and peer knowledge-sharing.

Purpose

In the rapidly evolving landscape of education, technology plays a pivotal role in shaping personalised learning experiences. With the growing accessibility of digital tools, students are no longer limited to traditional classroom instruction; instead, they have the opportunity to customize their learning journeys in ways that best suit their individual needs, learning styles, and goals.

Technology-enhanced learning enables students to break free from rigid educational structures by leveraging tools such as adaptive learning platforms, Al-driven tutors, collaborative digital workspaces, and immersive virtual or augmented reality experiences. These innovations allow students to engage with content more interactively, track their own progress with real-time feedback, and personalise their study strategies based on data-driven insights. Moreover, students can harness open educational resources, online courses, and peer-to-peer learning networks to enhance their understanding beyond what is offered in traditional curricula.

Traditionally, educators and institutions have led the implementation of technology enhanced learning. However, students themselves are emerging as key drivers of innovation, demonstrating creativity in designing their own personalised learning methods. From utilising Al-driven study assistants and creating digital portfolios to developing interactive simulations or gamified learning tools, students are finding novel ways to integrate technology into their education in meaningful ways.

To encourage and recognise student-driven innovation in personalised learning, University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) is holding an undergraduate student competition: Great Ideas: Student-driven Technology-Enhanced Personalised learning Showcase (STEPS). This competition will serve as a platform for students to demonstrate how they have creatively integrated technology to enhance their learning experiences. Through a short video submission, participants will have the opportunity to highlight their innovative approaches, fostering a culture of self-directed learning and knowledge-sharing among peers. By showcasing these unique implementations, UPD aims to inspire more students to explore the potential of technology in transforming their own educational journeys.
