Risk Assessment and Management

This two-week online course introduces learners to the essential principles of risk assessment and management within occupational safety and health. It begins by explaining the different types of risk assessments and their appropriate applications, helping participants understand how to systematically identify hazards in the workplace. The course then explores the hierarchy of control measures—from elimination and substitution to engineering controls, administrative actions, and personal protective equipment—emphasizing how to choose and implement the most effective strategies. Learners also examine how risk assessments integrate into broader occupational safety and health (OSH) management plans, ensuring that safety is not just reactive but proactively embedded into organizational practices. A key focus is placed on the roles and responsibilities of individuals and institutions in maintaining a safe work environment, highlighting the importance of accountability and continuous improvement.
